The Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Enterprise Architect (EA) division has 2-3 program/project areas that will provide aspiring hands-on aspiring technology specialists who love to explore, build and/or support technology systems or products. The people we are looking for are those who will execute the vision set by the CTO EA leaders. The CTO EA is looking for a technology enthusiast who wants to solve data-sharing problems between enterprise applications/tools. They would have an interest in solving the problems using modern technology, such as cloud services.
INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION:
Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) is looking for a System Analyst Intern to be part of the HHSC enterprise architecture team in Austin, TX. You will gain experience working with data and analytics of several types of HHSC application data, while gaining experience related to data warehousing, data analytics & reporting, research, and more.
Preference will be given to students enrolled in an Information Science, Data Science, or similar program at any level. This is an unpaid summer internship for the summer that may be extended into the fall on a part-time basis. The chosen candidate must be able to report in person to our Austin North Austin Campus (NAC) for the duration of their internship.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

Build a Professional Portfolio: Create or contribute to tangible work products that can be showcased in a professional portfolio to demonstrate skills and experience.

Apply programming skills for application tier: Successfully write, test, and debug code using [Python, JavaScript, React, Java] to implement features or solve technical problems.
POSSIBLE INTERNSHIP PROJECTS:

Researching and prototyping a proof-of-concept for a new technology integration.

Developing basic scripts for system monitoring or automation (e.g., daily health checks).

Creating a dashboard or report using existing data sources (e.g., in Excel, Tableau, Power BI).
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Must be a student accepted into a college, university or educational institution. Prefer students who are studying or enrolled in computer science, information science, or data science.
INITIAL SELECTION CRITERIA:
Familiar with Excel, PowerPoint, and Spreadsheets. Preferred experience with Database Software Applications and Cloud.
